Dre Disses J.D./ New HBO Series - April 26,
2002
Dr. Dre has been involved in beefs in the past,
but he hasn't publicly dissed anyone in a while.
On the track What You Say from The Eminem
Show LP, Dre called out Jermaine Dupri. The line
goes like:
Over 80 million records sold / And I didn't have
to do it with 10 and 11 year olds / Fuck Jermaine
The reason why Dre dissed him is because JD said
in an interview that he couldn't understand why
he's not mentioned in the same list of great producers
like Dre and Timbaland. Apparently Dre took the
words to heart. Let's see if Jermaine comes back
with anything.
In other Dre news, HBO is developing a new series
based on the life of Dr. Dre, who said actor Chazz
Palminteri is writing and directing the first episode.
"It's still in the beginning stages right
now, but it's gonna be pretty hot," Dr.
Dre said. Lil Jay

Dj Quik Workin With Mariah Carey - April 23,
2002
DJ Quik has joined the list of Mariah Carey's collaborators
for her next effort. On Monday, Quik said he had
already completed a track where he took the diva
"to the club."
'I took her to the low riders. It's 808-thick.'
Quik said.
Quik's going back in the lab with Mariah soon to
record a ballad, he said.
'Mariah is serious', he observed. 'It's
funny, I didn't get a chance to do her vocals, but
I like how she takes the recording process seriously.
She's not in there lollygagging, wasting time. She's
in there writing harmonies with her girls. It was
real cool. It don't hurt that she's real fine, she's
real easy on the eyes.'
'I think 'Glitter' was a hoax. In my opinion, I
think she got caught in something that just didn't
work. I think it was partially timing, too, and
the fact there weren't any really strong singles.
I think she can come back. Her fans should allow
her one wack album. They allowed me one.' Quik
said. Lil Jay

Hi-Tek, will also be released to mixtape and mix

Around the same
time the album drops, a documentary will be released
— also titled Welcome to Tha House — on VHS

And according
to MTV, Snoops solo album Paid Tha Cost to Be
Tha Boss is set to drop in late September. Hi-Tek,
Just Blaze, Fredwreck, Battle Cat, the Neptunes,
DJ Scratch and new Dogg House in-house producer
Quazedelic have all supplied beats.
As he's doing
with the label compilation, Snoop is also going

Truth Hurts
Talks - April 11, 2002
"Her album
is scary," proclaimed DJ Quik, when he talked
to MTV about Truth Hurts new album. He knows her
from back in the day.
"I'm sitting up here looking at this Mary J.
Blige 'Behind the Music' — it's almost like she's
a West Coast Mary. Just like kind of the same vibe.
I used to tour with Mary, and I see a lot of Mary
in Shari. Shari is on some soulful, street shit
and she ain't no punk broad. She's strong and she's
different."
"I've experienced
a lot of lies and bullshit with people in the music
industry," Truth Hurts said last month at Dr.
Dre's Burbank, California, recording studio.
"It's not truthful and honest at all. I got to a
point where I was fed up with that. When you're
an artist you feel like, 'This is the only thing
I have,' and you want to push forth. ... Just going
through the bullshit sometimes makes your art not
worth it."
"I think a
lot of the music the female artists are putting
out right now is kind of bubble-gummish," Dre
said. "Not to take anything away from the female
artists that are out there. They're doing their
thing, but that's their thing. I wanted a singer
that can really sing, but do the type of music that
my audience is gonna buy. I don't think that's been
done so far. It's been done with singers singing
on rap records, what have you, making it edgy. But
nobody just came for themselves, making an entire
edgy R&B album. And I think she did it."
"I was like,
'Man, I've never heard anything like this,' " Truth
recalled. "I took it to Dre that day, and he
was like, 'This changes the game right here. Tell
Quik to call my phone right now.' Quik called him,
and he was like, 'I love this track. I think it's
gonna be her first single.' "
"I learned
everything I need to know from working with Dr.
Dre. I love him for being a perfectionist and knowing
what it takes to do this shit for real. Not just
throwing out some nonsense. He's a master at this
game." Truth said.

Detox A Hip Hop Musical - April 4, 2002
"I'm not talking about lowriders and blunts and
all that anymore. I mean, that's played. As a matter
of fact, I'm tired of hearing other people talk
about it, to tell you the truth." Dre told MTV
at his studio recently.
So what is the
hip-hop pioneer going to talk about?
"I had to
come up with something different but still keep
it hardcore, so what I decided to do was make my
album one story about one person and just do the
record through a character's eyes. And everybody
that appears on my album is going to be a character,
so it's basically going to be a hip-hop musical."
Dre said.
Detox's story
line will chronicle the life of a hit man, describing
"what he goes through and how he lives his life,"
said Dre
So far, the album,
which Dre said will be his last in front of the
mic, is still in the early stages.
"I've been
blueprinting, getting ideas together for the past
six months or so, just trying to figure out which
direction I want to take and how I'm gonna present
the project. Just gathering sounds and what have
you. I want this one to be really over the top."
he said.
Dre expects to
start recording by summer, after he finishes a few
tracks with Eminem and upcoming albums for
three artists on his Aftermath label, Truth Hurts,
Shaunta and Rakim.
He said Detox
should be out by summer 2003.
"It's probably going to take me like a year to get
it all the way together."
One thing that
won't get in the way of recording is acting. After
roles in "The Wash" and "Training Day" last year,
Dre said he will hang up that hat.
"I had fun
doing it, but acting ain't really my thing. I am
more of a production/director type. I would rather
be behind the scenes and organizing and putting
things together like that." Lil Jay
