paper 07/08/07 | WC Readying "Guilty By Affiliation"
As rap has become ubiquitous, its artists have moved slowly but steadily away from the street-centered mentality that made the music so potent in the 1980s and early 1990s. Realizing that rap has lost its edge and intensity, Los Angeles rap icon and Westside Connection member WC returns rap to its creative roots -- exemplary lyricism, conceptual greatness, bone-crushing production -- on his masterful new album, Guilty By Affiliation.

Examining the reality of ghetto life in America has long been a staple of WC's work, a trend that continues with his new collection. "Growing up in a gang-related area, I realized that you can get caught up in the justice system, and I saw how it easily becomes the injustice system for us," WC explains. "I wanted to call the record Guilty By Affiliation for that reason. Also, being from the West Coast, there's been so many uphill battles just to get noticed."

WC details the pitfalls of life in Los Angeles ghettos and his struggle to ascend to music industry stardom on the intimidating "West Coast Voodoo," the confrontational "This Is Los Angeles" and the Butch Cassidy-assisted "Dodge Ball." Elsewhere, the title track details how being black isn't a job, but an adventure -- with police, rival gang members, drugs and other forces waiting to derail you.

WC then references the famous fairy tale on "Jack & The Bean Stalk," which signals the awakening of a sleeping giant -- WC, in this case. On this monstrous cut, WC flexes his visually arresting lyrical skills: "I'm harder than Michael Jackson's dick in a day care…I beat a rappin bitch up, too, 'cos I don't play fair." The piano-propelled "Paranoid" further showcases WC's twisted humor: "I'm nothin' nice, like Fantasia without no makeup on, on the mic I'm a ugly ass sight."

By documenting his own struggles with society and the still harrowing aftermath of America's institutionalized racism, WC has created music that is important and thought provoking as it is entertaining. "I'm dealing with being black, just having a jacket thrown on me for being black," he says. "Once that jacket is on you, there's so much that comes with it, from just stepping outside to what people expect you to do if you've had some success. It's like an ongoing rollercoaster. It takes a strong individual to not crack or break down."

Since appearing on the Ice-T-backed Rhyme Syndicate compilation in the late 1980s, WC has remained rock-solid and has established himself as one of rap's most important voices. He was the visionary behind Low Profile and the political WC And The MAAD Circle. With supergroup Westside Connection (Ice Cube, Mack 10, WC), WC flexed his gangster rap heritage to the hilt.

One constant throughout his distinguished career has been his uncanny ability to draw attention to his high-octane rhymes through his varied inflection, his wide-ranging delivery patterns and his constantly shifting rhyme speed. Long-time partner-in-rhyme and childhood neighbor Ice Cube has also been a constant in WC's career and is releasing Guilty By Affiliation on his Lench Mob Records. "Cube's not just a feature," WC says. "He's a part of the record now."

And it's a record that will send shockwaves throughout a rap community that has become too comfortable with its own success. "There's still problems in the ghetto that exist," WC says. "They're not over with. Until they're dealt with accordingly, there's going to be a lot of chaos out here. And I'm a product of that." Guilty as charged.

paper 04/03/07 | Wes Indeed Newest Group On The West?
"You say you a G, started banging in 2003 / let's see, that's like 20 years after me"

Dresta Da Gangsta is back to speak the truth, and he didn't come alone: He brought his partner in crime BG Knocc Out with him, along with Young Maylay, Young Dre The Truth, Killa Polk, and Compton Cavie.

These 6 rappers are not here for no reason, as they want to put the word out that they are in talks of forming a group called Wes Indeed.

Nothing is official and confirmed yet, but the combination sounds definitely right. Not to mention that it's bringing the OG's together with the young guns of the West Coast.

Wes Indeed doesn't just look right on paper, because a sneak preview is already here to prove that the chemistry is there. They've already recorded songs under the collective, one of them being the self-titled track "Wes Indeed".

We'll see what comes out of this, but the song is a banger and we're here to bring it to you exclusively:

» Dresta, BG Knocc Out, Young Maylay, Young Dre, Killa Polk, Compton Cavie - Wes Indeed

paper 04/01/07 | Exclusive Snoop Dogg Throwback Joint
Today we take you back to the good ole' 90's for an exclusive throwback joint. Not only do we cover certified classics for the throwback ride, but also unreleased tracks that never hit the public. And chances are slim that the average West Coast listener heard this song before. This is a special drop from the archives for all the Death Row fans, especially all the Snoop Dogg fans.

We bring you an unreleased Snoop Doggy Dogg track that was recorded during the "Doggfather" sessions. The song was supposed to appear on the album, but got cut later on. It's called "Work It Out" and it features Shaquille O'Neal and Mista Grimm. As Snoop revealed in Part 4 of our exclusive interview back in January, that was the time when he hooked up with Shaq on the music tip:

"Actually, that's how me and Shaquille O'Neal got real cool, cause of that particular album. There's a song called "Dippin' In My Low-Low", he wanted that song that muthafuckin' bad, the nigga came to my studio like "Nigga I need to get that song!!!" I was like "Nigga that's Shaq!" I gave him the song and me and him ended up making some music together and we became cool after that. But you know me, like I said, I done made a lot of classic shit that I don't even remember or don't even know where the fuck it's at! I think I done been a part of atleast a thousand songs. And I've been a part of atleast a hundred hit records!"

Dogg ain't lying about them songs! As for "Work It Out", that is one of them collabos Snoop and Shaq ended up recording together. Shaq did the first verse, while Mr. Indo Smoke himself is rapping on the second verse. And you already know that Snoop did his thing on the last verse. As you can tell by the overall vibe of the song, it has that "1996 Doggfather funk" feel to it.

paper 01/11/07 | The Wacsta Is Back With New Projects
South Central Los Angeles born and raised The Wacsta aka Wacy Loco hit the scene in 2004 with an impressive debut album called "West Coast Resurrected". Wacsta got the stamp of approval from some of the big dogs on the Coast with featurings from WC, C-Bo, Spice 1, Jayo Felony, Tash, Kokane, Too Short, and others. "I had some West Coast legends on there so that was a thrill for me" Wacsta told Westcoast2k.

Two years later the Wacsta is ready to release his sophomore album which serves as an introduction to his crew the We Whit It Rydaz. The album is called "Warning: This Is Not A Mixtape" and The Wacsta took some time out to explain the concept to Westcoast2k:

"We're dropping it to let the world know that we got some originality coming up out the game" The Wacsta said. "A lot of cats is doing mixtapes because they feel like that's gonna get them to where they need to be if they rap over these dudes beats. No disrespect to the mixtape rappers and DJ's, but I just feel like we need to introduce some new beats and bring different aspects to the game."

They are waiting for the right distribution deal to come through the door, but the album itself will be released independently.
"We're coming independent so we're doing everything solo" Wacsta continued. "It's hard when you're independent but it's gonna be worth at the end, because you're really making a stamp in the game with your own stuff if it's hot. Everything I do is selfmade just like the "West Coast Resurrected" album; with that one I'm a little bit over 55,000 sold right now, so we're doing pretty good to begin with that project."

The Wacsta laced Westcoast2k with 3 exclusive songs from the album. On top of that we have another exclusive that he recently recorded with Katt Williams called "Get At Me Dawg". All 4 songs can be downloaded below. After "Warning: This Is Not A Mixtape", Wacsta is scheduled to drop his second solo album which he has already started working on. The album is set to have guest appearances from Roscoe, Goldie Loc, Kurupt, Jayo Felony amongst others.

The Wacsta also spoke his mind on the current state of West Coast Hip Hop and addressed the situation about new and established artists networking with eachother. "It's a fine line between this new West Coast and the old West Coast, but really, it's all old West Coast. I grew up on all of the legends like WC and Cube, so I gotta show respect to them cause that's where we learned the shit from. But at the same time I feel that the vets who got the plugs and the avenues, why won't y'all help these hot West Coast niggas get in the game though? Especially if a nigga is hot!
Go check on Westcoast2k
every now and then and see what these up and coming artists talk about. Ride him to your studio, fly him down! See if he can get down how you want him to get down. That's how I look at it. But when niggas ain't looking out we're getting hungry cause we're trying to get where y'all at right now. It ain't no disrespect to the OG's cause I love them. Like Dub C, he is my family, that's my uncle, that nigga raised me. We go way back before the rap game so that's my main nigga, he knows how his boy Wacy Loco get down. I respect my elders. If you look at the "West Coast Resurrected" album, I brought all the OG's on there."

Wacy Loco can also be heard on the Spice 1 "Bossed Out" compilation which was released in 2005. Wacsta was all over the album and stole the show on a lot of tracks, such as "Crazy". The compilation also came with a accompanying DVD which had Spice 1, Wacsta, Katt Williams and the rest of the crew kicking it behind the scenes and bossin up on stage.

"Spice 1 is a legend. I deal with this cat on a regular basis" Wacsta said about Spice 1, "but where is his respect? Where are the niggas in the game that can pick him up and put him on a Dre beat? Quit being stingy like that! Put him on a hot ass track and let him get down. If they can bring Rakim back to life, come on man! So I just feel like people need to open up their doors and network."

A two minute video segment from the "Bossed Out" DVD can be watched by downloading it below:
