Afeni
Shakur, mother of slain rapper Tupac Shakur, filed a
lawsuit against Daz Dillinger (Delmar Arnaud) on Monday
(August 27), seeking unspecified damages. Shakur filed
the lawsuit to stop Dillinger's unauthorized release
of Makaveli & Dillinger - The EP, which is scheduled
for release on Dillinger's DPG Records on December 25.
The material was recorded while Dillinger and Tupac
Shakur were both signed to Death Row Records in 1995-96.
As executor and sole beneficiary of her son's estate,
Afeni Shakur owns the rights to his musical compositions
and the use of his trademarks, which include 2Pac and
Makaveli.
The lawsuit contains
13 causes of action, including trademark infringement,
unfair competition, trademark dilution, copyright infringement,
trademark infringement under common law, conversion,
unjust enrichment, declaratory relief, and accountings.
Shakur maintains that Dillinger has never asked or been
granted permission to release the recordings or to use
her son's name. Shakur also maintains that Dillinger
has been advertising the release of the album and taking
pre-orders via his website all without her permission
or authorization.
Dillinger should
be familiar with the feeling of having recordings released
without consent, as Death Row Presents: Tha Dogg Pound
2002 is currently Number 100 on the Billboard 200 albums
chart. Death Row Records released the set in July, compiling
older material recorded by Dillinger and his partner
Kurupt while the pair was still signed to Death Row
in the mid-'90s. Death Row still owns the rights to
Tha Dogg Pound name, so the duo now records under the
DPG moniker.

DJ Quik and Hi-C have filed a lawsuit against the Source
Magazine as well as the city of Pasadena and its police
department. If you may recall, DJ Quik was the one who
was shown on national TV, dressed in white being tackled
and manhandled by the police while he was on the red
carpet. This was the footage that was shown all around
the world whenever last year's Source Awards were mentioned.
What really set this off was the fact that DJ Quik was
attacked by some cats who simply were hating on him.
Security didn't hold back the assailants, they simply
went after Quik who was trying to defend himself. He's
suing for medical expenses, loss of hearing and pain
and suffering.

The
legendary Back To School Powerhouse 2001 concert took
place last Saturday at The Pond in Anaheim. The concert
was dynamite and had lots of West Coast artists reppin,
like Xzibit, Ras Kass and DJ Quik. Kurupt was there
too as the special surprise artist and he brought along
his brother Roscoe, Daz and Tha Liks with him. They
performed songs like 'Aint No Fun', 'What Would You
Do', Lets Get High', 'Behind the Walls', 'Who Ride Wit
Us' and more. DJ Quik performed the song 'Tonite'. Xzibit
performed all his classic songs. Check out some dope
pics from the concert below, courtesy Power 106. Click
to enlarge.
In
other small news, 'Cool' is the next single for the
Eastsidaz' latest album 'Duces & Trayz'. It features
Nate Dogg and was produced by Hi-Tek. The new Jay Z
album leaked and Daz produced none of the tracks, after
he was supposed to produce like 8 or 9 tracks for Jay.
Looks like Jay Z changed his mind.
Watts native Khaleeq the Punisher has a new album coming
out called 'The Murder Show' and you can order it from

Cube
talked to MTV the other day about his new Greatest Hitz
album comin at cha November 20th.
"It's coming out kinda tight," Cube said of the greatest-hits
project during a break from recording on Wednesday.
The cold one was in the studio with the Neptunes laying
a new track called "In the Midnight Hour," which he
plans to include on his greatest-hits collection. "The
record companies kinda hooked it up," he said.
"When [the Neptunes] heard they was going to work with
me, they put some stuff together in Virginia and flew
it out here," he explained. "As a rapper, when you get
some producers like the Neptunes to have something tailor-made
for you, that's kinda of what you look for."
"It's a mixture of things," Cube explained. "Songs that
were big on the radio and chart-wise, like 'It Was
a Good Day,' but also songs like 'A Gangsta's
Fairytale' from my earlier years on AmeriKKKa's
Most Wanted. A video was never made, the song never
charted, but clearly one of my greatest hits. 'Jackin'
for Beats' is on there. 'Pushin' Weight,'
'We Be Clubbin', 'Check Yo Self,' a whole
lot of them."
"This might be my last record for a while, 'til I get
rejuvenated," he said. "Right now I do records more
for fun. The hustle and bustle of the business is boring,
it's wack, it's depressing. I refuse to play the record
game at this point in my career.
Snoop
Dogg will appear in a new movie called Crime Partners
with the likes of Ice T, Ja Rule, Chino XL, Charli Baltimore,
Angie Martinez and Cormega. The movie, based on the
Donald Goines novel of the same name, stars Tyrin Turner
and John "BJ" Bryant as Billy Goode and Jackie Williams,
a pair of inner-city thugs who are hired by an underground
crime lord to murder white crooked cops. Billy and Jackie's
drama intensifies when they cross King Fisher, a notorious
street hustler portrayed by Ice T.
Snoop Dogg has committed to working on the soundtrack.
Here some news that i picked up at the WCC forum: The
new Murder Dog issue has an article on Snoop and the
tentative title of his next album is Doggystyle Part
2. Its has more news on Kokane's new album 'Dr. Jeckyl
and Mr. Kane' which will be produced by Kokane himself,
Dre & Meech Wells. More news on the new Mac 10 album,
he's workin together with Dre on that one (will be released
on Cash Money). Pick up that mag. Thanx to Incognito
for the news. LilJermaine

peeps, I got my hands on those songs that I promised
in the last update. This song is brand new and officially
from the Training Day Soundtrack. Its by Dr. Dre &
DJ Quik. Well this collabo is like a dream come true
for some of yall including me. This song is so hot you
will like it whether youre a Dre/ Quik fan or not. It
was produced by Dre himself and it also features female
singer Mimi and she did a pretty good job on the hook.
Anyways, enough talk, stream the song below:

As
the bigg homie Dpc2K reported on his site, Big Cartoon
hooked up the WCA sites with some new infos on the Eazy
E DVD's. Peep the news:
In regards to the Eazy E DVD that has been talked about,
there's a rumored DVD coming out from Ruthless Records
which is not the same DVD as the one theyre producing
on Lil Eazy Records/Films. The Lil E release is being
produced with the help of many people close to Eazy,
and features extremely rare material, including raw
video footage, behind the scenes interviews, lots of
home video, performances, and so on. It will also serve
as a means to introduce Lil Eazy E to the world at large,
as most Eazy E fans are not aware that he will be coming
out.
With that said, be on the lookout for what has been
discussed as a Boyz N Tha Hood 2002 remix. Hopefully
that will happen soon. Much success to both endeavors,
Lil E and Ruthless, as Eazy's name needs to be carried
on. In other news, this past weekend the homiez had
a little photo-shoot with Bigg A, Bic Cartoon and CCE
crew, Lil Eazy, and others to promote the project. Look
for some pics here soon. After that they checked out
some pre-mastered footage for Daz's new upcoming video,
"Gangsta Shits" which was promoted in the booklet of
Dillinger & Young Gotti. So be on the lookout for
that too. Daz has been a big part of the Westcoast resurgence
and that says a lot for his efforts, because he has
been doin the damn thang on an independent scale. In
relation to the above story, the Lil E Films DVD might
end up as a joint venture between Lil E/DPG Records
as far as labels go. That's the news for now from The
Homie Cartoon.
Check out some new tunes from some of the West's most
underrated artists. Both tracks are from the Uninvited
Guests Soundtrack, which came out in February this year.
The first track is by Phats Bossi (you might remember
him from the song Radio with Kurupt). The song was produced
& written by Dr. Dre & Warren G and is called
Through The Rain. The second song is by Boss
Hogg. The songs called Fleetwood Mac. They both
Hot, so check em out. Thanx to Kev'n for the songs,
good lookn out, boy. Thats all from us. Peace..lilJermaine

Yall, Ice Cube's New 'Friday Part 3' Movie Greenlighted:
New Line Cinema has given Ice Cube the green light for
a third installment of the rapper-turned-actor's "Friday"
series of movies, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Friday After Next," which follows 1995's "Friday" and
last year's "Next Friday," will begin production in
the fall with an eye on a Thanksgiving 2002 release.
Cube -- who wrote the script and will produce the project
with Matt Alvarez through their Cube Vision production
company -- will reprise his role as Craig Jones. Mike
Epps (Day-Day Jones), Don "D.C." Curry (Uncle Elroy
Jones), and John Witherspoon (Mr. Jones) will all be
back for the third go around. A director has not yet
been attached.
Comedian Chris Tucker, star of the new Rush Hour 2,
recently explained to a New York radio station why he
hasn't and will not participate in any of the Friday
sequels. Tucker said that he wasn't comfortable with
being associated with the marijuana-smoking Smokey character
he played in Friday. Tucker, who doesn't use drugs,
said that as an adult, the character was just too far
removed from who he is. Tucker's explanation dispelled
the popular notion that Ice Cube and New Line Cinema
were not willing to pay the actor his $20 million asking
price.
While "Next Friday" took the Jones clan out of the ghetto
thanks to Day-Day's lottery win, the new film will see
Craig and Day-Day as roommates back in the hood, holding
down jobs as strip mall security guards. The story is
set across two days -- Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Yall this is the new layout. It was bout time to change
it, hope yall like it. The bigg homie JMP from 604 Entertainment
hooked up this fresh layout and brought some heat to
the house. For best results please use Internet Explorer
4 or above. Or else the site will look shitty, especially
with Netscape. The site doesnt have a scrollbar with
Netscape so u cant navigate with the pop up window.
If you havin troubles I suggest you Bookmark this window
here and then come back again using this link, the layout
will look shitty but at least it will work better. If
u find any boken html links please report this. Ill
have time to work on the audio section and Im gonna
try to re-up the songs asap, so please be patient and
keep them requests rollin.
Lets
get to the news. The homie BigCartoon hollered at the
WCA crew with some mo news on the Eazy E tribute DVD.
BigCartoon is designin the covers for the DVD and also
chosin the material for the DVD. Hes currently checkin
the stuff to put on the DVD. So far they got a footage
of the making of the 'Foe Tha E' video, the first ever
appearance of Bone Thugs N Harmony. Then they got a
Bone Thugs footage at the House Of Blues doin an Eazy
E Tribute. They performed all the classic tracks from
1999. Another thing is the the Eazy E burial with Lil
E dropping the first shovel of dirt on a 24K gold casket
containing his father E, followed by Lil Derick, E's
second oldest, doing the same with the help of Yella.
Then you got Kokane's first public performance at the
first ever 92.3 KKBT Summer Jam sponsored by Eazy and
more appearances by Blue Rag, Treach, Ice T, NWA &
more. Layzie Bone has stated he will be down to work
on the project, as apparently have members of the DPGC
clique including Snoop Dogg. The project apparently
will be on both VHS and DVD with both items having different
bonus footages. Then...shortly after the work on the
Eazy E DVD is finished, they will start on the next
project tentativley titled "5 Days with Daz & Kurupt".
That sounds tight, no info on this yet but we'll keep
ya posted.
Tha
Gang will release their debut album next year on DPG
Records. The group consists of Daz, Blue RAG, KAM and
Threat. The album called 'The Streets Aint Safe No More'
will have 17 songs. The official DPG Records website
has a tentative album cover. Visit DPG
Records Online for more info.
Nate
Dogg was on BET's 106 & Park yesterday and talked
bout his new album. Its currently untitled but the tentative
release date is November 20th. It will be released on
Elektra Records and guests on the album are Warren G,
The Dove Shack, Snoop Dogg & Tha Eastsidaz, Dr.
Dre, Daz, Kurupt, Kokane, Xzibit, Missy Elliot, Ludacris
& more. Tha Eastsidaz were on the Howard Stern radio
show yesterday morning and they talked for about 45
minutes. Rumours are that the song 'Welcome to tha House'
with Nate Dogg and Doggys Angels is the 2nd single from
Duces & Trayz, nothings confirmed though.
Here's
a lil somethin somethin for yall peeps. We got a new
layout and I tought Id hit yall up with an exclusive
song. Its a Kurupt song and the interesting thing is
that its a leftover from Tha Streetz Iz A Mutha. The
song was supposed to be the first single but then got
screwed. It features Slip Capone and Roscoe and is called
Wild Wild West. This song was released as a single together
with a b-side. Check it out below, its a good song yall.
Peace. LilJay
