paper 08/15/03 | DPG-Unit To Drop Album Together

Under the supergroup moniker of "DPG-Unit," the Dogg Pound and G-Unit have recorded almost an entire LP worth of material together while on the Rock the Mic Tour.

"We're gonna take over the whole world. We got a song with me, Snoop Dogg, Soopafly, Young Buck, Lloyd Banks and 50 Cent for the G-Unit album." Daz told MTV of the joint venture.

The six MCs recorded nine other songs in a three-day period while on tour, but they don't have definite plans yet as to where the remaining tracks will pop up. The supergroup doesn't even have a record label to put an album out, but members have been toying with the possibility of using 50's G-Unit Records as a recording home.

"Eight bars, eight bars, eight bars, then a hook. Eight, eight, eight, then a hook. We're going back and forth. It's all about coordination. Sometimes we're in there doing our parts while members of the G-Unit are onstage. Sometimes they're doing their parts while we're onstage. We'll be in there sometimes together. Especially after the show, we have our little parties and whatever. We be having a good time. We're trying to make it a whole album, just unite together and keep it crackin." Daz revealed of the DPG-Unit's song structures.

Daz, who's also working out a solo recording deal with JD's So So Def label said his ties to the G-Unit go back further. As it turns out, Young Buck has been a friend of his for years.

paper 08/05/03 | 213 Working With Neptunes On New LP
It took 12 years, but 213 will finally unleash their first record in November.

"We've been in the laboratory doing real good music, so we should have a single for y'all maybe in about three weeks, maybe a month. It's hot. The West Coast is back, believe it!" Snoop told MTV.com.

The trio are recording with the Neptunes, along with many of the same producers behind Snoop's last solo LP, including Jelly Roll.

"I'm just trying to put together the best record to represent 213, since we never came with a record before, nobody never really heard us as a group," Snoop said. "We're really getting each others' back on every record. It makes the job that much easier and more like team ball. I play team ball better anyways."

Snoop has yet to title the 213 album, but he does have a name for his next solo album, "Snoopafly", which he said will be executive produced by P. Diddy.

"I've been looking forward to working with him, and he wants to work with me, so we just gonna make it happen and bridge the gap and put together a classic record," Snoop said.

The veteran rappers from opposite coasts are planning to start the album in the fall. Snoop also hopes to make a movie of sorts relating to the material.

"Doing it with Puff is gonna make it so big to where it's gonna have to have a movie and big budget," Snoop said. "I've been sitting on the title Snoopafly for like three years, but I never had the appropriate record, the appropriate concept. This would only be right if I had a movie to go behind it."

Snoop is still tossing around ideas for his solo material, but fans might see a different side of the rapper.

"It's just something about rock that just brings out a certain type of energy in me that sometimes just needs to be released," he said. "You never know, I might go rock and roll for a minute."
