Jayo Squashes Beef - January 30, 2002 -

Some good news today. Jayo Felony approached both Snoop Dogg and Jay Z and squashed his beefs.

We had our differences, but life goes on," Jayo told Launch . "To be a man, and to be a man in this game, I've learned how to squash my beefs without beefing and fighting and shit, so I'm on a whole 'nother page. I started them beefs, and I squashed them too. We all straight. We about to be working together, doing our thang.

Jayo also adds that rappers should learn how to resolve their differences behind the scenes as opposed to using the media to vent.

It ain't got to go to the media and to the public. If there's a problem, we talk that sh-t out, one on one, as men. We want to thump 'em out, we go out to the back, and handle it, and hug afterwards. Lil Jay

Kurupt Creates Trigger Man & Talks
- January 28, 2002 -

I picked the following up from Launch.com. They sat down with Kurupt and he talked about his current situation. He told them why he decided to join Tha Row and what his homies had to say. Read On:

"Well, I've been deciding on it for a year, talking back and forth to him. You know, really thinking, 'cause I got kids man. It ain't a decision of myself. Not only do I got kids, I got a whole organization behind me that I have to look out for, talent, artists. I got my mama with me. So it's a lot of people behind me, that's depending on me to make right decisions in different ways. Me going here wasn't just for myself. It was for my whole family. I went to the place where I felt they was going to enhance me more to be a businessman, and f--k a artist. I'm the king of being an artist. Can't nobody see on that mic. They never will, never can," Kurupt said.

At Tha Row, which also includes new signing TLC's Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes (now known as N.I.N.A.), Kurupt will serve in an executive capacity as the senior vice president. His first release will be the Tha Row artist Crooked I.

Launch also asked Kurupt if he has received any input from his friends in the rap community, namely Snoop Dogg.

"I talked to them to find out what they think because that is my big homie, and they are people I look up to as well as, I need to know. What you think, you know. I hollered at the homies. I hollered at Daz. Daz is always going to stay with me no matter what. Of course I had to holler at the homies to find out what they thought about it. And all of them, the majority of them, the main thing they said was, 'You know what you facing. Stay safe. Do right," he said.

Artemis Records released a statement saying that Kurupt was still signed to its label. Kurupt is creating a new label, Trigger Men, which will be a subsidiary of Tha Row. Lil Jay

DJ Quik Talks New Album - January 28, 2002 -

"It's like being in a delivery room without all the blood and guts and stuff," Quik said about working with Sugar Ray on a song that may or may not be released. "It's like watching a baby being born."

"It's a real hot record, but it's a little different for them," continued Quik, who said he'd also be going into the studio with Korn soon. "So we're going to see what they're going to do."

Quik, who was dropped from his last label, Arista, plans to put out his next LP, Under the Influence, on April 2 on his own independent label, Eutonic.

"I been doing collaborations with some really heavy artists," he said. "Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, Shyheim, Dr. Dre, Sugar Free. The first single is called 'Trouble' and features AMG on the second verse. I'm venting everything that's happened to me the last couple of years — the thing with Arista, run-ins with the police. It's a new energy going on with me. I put together a record that will stand the test of critics wavering and short attention spans."

Helping to keep everyone focused is Quik's reworking of musical backdrops. "It's a classic record with all type of influences," he said. "It's got no West Coast sounds on it. Using the whole Roger Troutman, Zapp sound, that bullshit is for the birds."

"I'm switching back from that watered-down, corny shit I did with Arista. It wasn't just the whole Roger Troutman thing. Everyone thinks that's what it's about now — you gotta be real clean and linear. My new album is recorded in the fashion we used to do. The analog stuff, the old preamps, big microphones. It's a big sound. We're turning big knobs in the studio."

Quik said Dr. Dre helped him fine-tune some of the tracks.

"Dude is like a super genius," he marveled. "His name couldn't be more perfect: the doctor. He gives you prescriptions on how to make your music better. You take it in and play for him, he gives you his opinions, and you implement his ideas. Before you know it, your record is beautiful."

The guys in Sugar Ray are equally impressive, Quik said. "Them dudes is tight. It's cool being in the studio with people like that because the creative energy in the studio is to die for. ... It's funny to watch people discover things. It's like watching a baby being born when somebody gets a fly guitar riff and they practice it. "

"The song we did is called 'Close to You.' Almost like when I worked with Tony Toni Toné. It's real warm, kind of organic sounding. A hip-hop bottom with a pop top end." » Source: MTV.com Lil Jay

Warren Gets Snoop & Nelly For Remix
- January 27, 2002 -

As we earlier reported, Warren G's next single from The Return Of The Regulator will be Ghetto Village. He's set to release a remix of this song featuring Snoop Dogg and Nelly which will be called My Ghetto Village.

According to Warren, the project was put together with a couple of phone calls. "I reached out to Nelly and I told him I wanted to do a remix with him," Warren explains. "He was cool with it. Snoop was just, 'Warren, I got your back. Let's do this.'"

According to Warren, Nelly is in the process of writing his verse, and when he's ready a Universal rep will fly to St. Louis and record the track. "Then they'll bring everything to me and Snoop will record his part," he adds. "It's all about helpin' each other out -- gotta show that unity." The remixed track will be released shortly after the album track hits the radio airwaves. Source: rollingstone.com Lil Jay

Hittman Update
- January 18, 2002 -

Allright, here is the official word from Ben Baller, Hittman's DJ. He hit me up and told me that Hittman is not off Aftermath. This must have been a mistake from Interscope's part. BUT, He said he wishes it were true and they are trying to get Hittman off the label, not because of any beef or such, but they gotta get his album out this summer. Hittman has been in the studio since the 6th of January and Hitt has been writing for Dre's next album Detox. But he just wants his album out this summer, they have met with several peeps like Timbaland and Def Jam and they offered a couple millions to get this album. Hittmans album whereever may be released but it will still have at least 50% of the production credited to Dre & Mel Man. So legaly Hitt is still signed to Aftermath but there is a possibility that he will drop his album on a different label. And as for the roster on Aftermath, The Truth, Rakim, Eminem, Hittman and Dre are the only TRUE ones signed to the Math. Lil Jay

If this is really true I gotta give him props for that. Lil Jay

Hittman Officially Off The Math -
January 16, 2002 -

Recently West Coast fans worried about Hittman and his debut album which was supposed to come out on Aftermath. A few weeks ago people questioned his situation because the official Interscope website removed him from the roster, but some people still believed he was on Aftermath and thought this was a mistake from Interscope.
Well right about now it looks like Hitt leaved the label. We were told by Interscope publicity that Hitt is officially off Aftermath but nothing has been confirmed by the artist himself, so keep an eye out for that. It looks like his debut album has been put on hold again. We'll post more news on this when it arrives to us. Lil Jay

Bungalo Records Testing New Player - January 14, 2002 -

The new West Coast label Bungalo Records, distributed by Universal, whose artist roster includes DJ Quik, Chill, Suga Free, Coolio and others, is the first to show their support of the new MegaPlayer. This Player allows music listeners to download tracks and video clips of their favorite artists. But unlike any technology to date, each MegaPlayer has its own unique code that allows the user to play only the MegaPlayer files that they download, protecting artists and labels from download piracy and file sharing.
After signing an exclusive partnership this Spring, RG Tecq and Bungalo Records will implement several pilot programs, including an online fan club for Cali’s super-producer DJ Quik this Fall. The program will offer unreleased tracks, exclusive remixes, and rare video footage to Quik fans for a nominal monthly membership fee. "These perks benefit consumers," explains Bungalo CEO Paul Ring, "but they also respect the artists' hard work and right to make money."
Now that's way Pimpish, this is tha year for Bungalo, In A Real Way !!!! Everybody go out & pick up Quik's new album titled "Safe + Sound Vol. 2" when it komes out; as far as a release date for it Westcoast2k will keep u posted.

January 11, 2002 -

This here is from DPG Recordz. Antra talks situation with Kurupt:
Despite the current rumors circulating of ANTRA artist Kurupt signing to Death Row or Doggystyle Records, Kurupt is still and will remain a signed ANTRA artist. We at ANTRA are always looking for better ways to broaden and diversify the marketing, management and promotion of Kurupt as an artist and are always open to any opportunities to do so.
It is very encouraging that ANTRA Records has developed and molded Kurupt into an artist that has become such a hot commodity in the music business and the hip-hop community, and we at ANTRA Records look forward to continuing in this role for many years to come. Lil Jay

Neither will Snoop, Bad Azz, Tray Dee, Goldie Loc, Fredwreck, and any other artist/producer affiliated with the Dogg Pound. Now thats WOAH! Ill keep you updated. Lil Jay
