paper 07/30/04 | New Game Mixtape Tracks
g-unit radio pt. 8      Game is all over the new "G-Unit Radio Pt. 8" Mixtape. We got some music for you from this Mixtape... Game spits new verses over Biggie's "Unbelievable" and over DPG's "New York New York" along with his new artist Life. Game raps over the Red Spyda produced "Still Crusin" which has a verse by Eazy E from his song "Switchez". Dub C joins Game, Snoop and Lloyd Banks with a brand new verse on "Fly Like An Eagle". Last but not least Game and Billboard (RIP) spit over Nas' "Doo Rags". This is called "R.I.P. Killa Cali". Overall pretty good Mixtape and definitely good promo for Game and his upcoming debut album.

paper 07/28/04 | New Kam Single Here
kam      Here is Kam's new joint called "New Message" featuring Akon. Its produced by Def Jef and it samples the classic "The Message" by Grand Master Flash. It will be the first single from the upcoming Sway and Tech album "Back 2 Basics" dropping soon. This album will be packed with raw hip hop lyricism.
The song is about how West Coast Hip Hop doesnt get any love from Radio and TV, and Kam even takes a little shot at Ice Cube. The hook goes "Dont play me like West Coast Rap is dead / Yall trying not to break no bread". Its not your average Rap song, they are really coming with a message, not just on this song but the whole album. West Coast Rap fans this is something you should support. paper 07/27/04 | FBI Indicts Big Hutch On Conspiracy Charge
big hutch      Federal authorities have indicted Big Hutch (AKA Gregory “Hutch” Hutchinson) for conspiracy to traffic one thousand pounds of marijuana in a case pursued by agents the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Hutchinson begins serving his sentence on July 28. Hutchinson says, “I was driving, and federal marshals pulled me over, and picked me up. They told me I had been indicted for drug trafficking.” Hutch, who is a member of the rap group Above The Law, recently released his second solo album, Live From The Ghetto. He first came into prominence when his group was signed by the late Eazy-E to his Ruthless Records label.

Hutchinson has just issued a statement, saying, “My advice to my friends and associates is that if you are with one or more individuals, and you ever suspect that something unusual is going on, just jump up and say, ‘I don’t know what is going on here, but I have an important appointment,’ and leave immediately. Otherwise, if your suspicion is correct and the deal goes down bad, one of those individuals will make a plea bargain with the government and say that you were present, and knew all about the deal and the drugs. That person’s statement as to what you said or did may be hearsay, but it will be admissible under the co-conspirator hearsay rule in a federal prosecution.

His attorney, Peter Kelley, said, “It has been a pleasure representing Hutch in this matter, and it’s really unfortunate he found himself in this position.”

A music video for Hutch’s single “Lyrical Murder” has just been released through West World/Activate Entertainment.

paper 07/27/04 | Damizza Back In The Studio With Mariah
Damizza has become known as a frequent Mariah collaborator, first as remixer on the hugely popular I Still Believe/Pure Imagination project, and later as producer and co-writer of tracks such as Crybaby, If We, Irresistible & last years' What Would You Do.

So it will be no surprise to hear that Damizza & Mariah are back in the studio and working on new material. Current reports indicate that up to three tracks have been made for Mariah's forthcoming album, one of which has a working title of "Stay The Night." Doubt still remains on the number that will make the final cut and end on the album.

Damizza is currently busy working on new material, planning expansion of Baby Ree Entertainment into oversea's market and celebrating the success of "Damizza Presents: The Baby Ree Mix Tape Volume 2" which has sold in access of 10,000 copies.

paper 07/22/04 | MC Eiht's West Music Signs w/ Native Records
mc eiht      West Coast hiphop icon, MC Eiht has just signed a deal for his newly formed label, West, Inc., with Native Records, which is distributed through Neil Levine’s Penalty Associated Labels at Ryko Distribution. The label’s first release will be an MC Eiht solo album, which is slated for early fall. It will be produced by Tha Chill, who has also crafted tracks for Snoop Dogg, 213, the Outlaws and MC Ren.

Eiht’s upcoming disc, which he is presently recording, will be titled "Veterans Day". The name stems from the fact that Eiht is one of the true O.G.’s of West Coast hiphop, having first emerged in 1989 with the debut release of Compton’s Most Wanted’s "It’s A Compton Thang". During his long career, he has enjoyed great success, particularly with his singles that have appeared in movie soundtracks, including "Growin’ Up In The Hood" from John Singleton’s film classic Boyz In Tha Hood, and the critically acclaimed "Streiht Up Menace" from the Hughes Brothers’ feature film, Menace II Society. Its soundtrack album held the Number One spot on the Billboard Top 100 R&B chart for 8 weeks straight. Eiht continues to signify an iconic status as a West Coast artist.

Native Records, which is headed by Ken Smith, has had previous releases that include The Militia All Stars’ disc "Comin' At Cha" and The Exodus by the Gospel Gangstaz, who were nominated for a Grammy Award in 2000.

paper 07/01/04 | Introducing 3rd Degree
3rd degree       Westcoast2k is introducing rising West Coast Rapper 3rd Degree. The name may be new to some people reading this but he's been around for a while. 3rd has a tight new single out called "Do My Thang" and he's bringin some serious heat on this. I 've been bumpin this for the last couple days, so you definitely need to watch for this cat. This song is the lead single from his upcoming album "The Pedestrian" coming August 31st.

(Los Angeles) The Pedestrian is walkin’ it like he talks it on this hookladen, jeep ready album slated for release by Blak Ice Records. Third Degree, who hails from South Central Los Angeles, grew up living right around the corner from Dub C of Westside Connection. “I went to Hiphop High,” says Third. “Washington High School was where I came up. A lot of hiphop people have gone there, like Dub C, Crazy Tunes from The Maad Circle, YoYo, DJ Alladin, and Sir Jinx, who DJ’s for Xzibit, and more. Crenshaw High may have had the sports people locked up, but Washington has had the music people.” Third Degree is destined to be the next hiphop alumni to speak with authority.

With rhymes constantly flowing out of every pore of his being, Third is definitely at no loss for words. The album, which is largely produced by the musically eloquent Yabie, is tightly packed with 21 serious tracks, including the runaway single “Do My Thang.” This quotable album is consistent all the way through, with no fillers or throwaway tracks. “I like real writers who have subjects and topics,” he professes. “I’m a purist kind of guy.” Third points out that Yabie’s work “sounded like music, it didn’t just sound like beats. He had a whole band of people available to play guitar, bass, all that. He thinks in a very musical way.” In this manner, he compares Yabie to DJ Quik. “He’s got a unique style. I can’t quite figure out his formula.” The single, "Do My Thang," will be out soon.

The battle-ready rapper’s name came his basketball days. “We called ourselves the Burn Unit,” he says. “We had names like Thermostat, Third Degree and Lava Rock.” Third’s government name is Wayne Guillory. “Like guillotine. It’s French,” he explains. “All my people come from Louisiana.” Either way, the world is his. It’s Wayne’s world, as he’s young, gifted and black, and prolific to an extreme.

His father was a coach, who lost his life to cancer. “My mom was real concerned about me after he died. That year, she asked me what I wanted for Christmas, and I told her. Had my father lived, I would have definitely not gotten those turntables!” he reminisces, shaking his head with a smile. Third became obsessed with hiphop with gospel-like devotion, and he began interpreting the world through the mind of a rhymesman. It seemed that every event in life was suddenly transformed into a searing rhyme by the verbal prodigy.

The prolific Third notes, “The single “Do My Thang” is a way to introduce me to people. I felt it was representative of where I was coming from. It lets people know a couple things about me, and I feel it describes me,” explains Third.
“My raps give people another view of Los Angeles. People who don’t live here think it’s all either gangbanging or Hollywood. L.A. is not all about being a gangsta. I just wanted to make this record about the regular person in L.A,” he concedes. Third believes there’s a lot of pressure to rap about banging, because some of the earlier great L.A. rappers before them. “People who don’t even gangbang,” he points out. “I think rappers should talk about what they do. If you gangbang and you rap, talk about gangbangin’ in your rap. If you sell crack all day, talk about selling crack all day. Whatever it is that is you. That’s what “Do My Thang” is all about. Just be yourself. If it’s you, do it. If not, don’t do it.” He adds, “Some of my best friends bang. But that’s them. It just never occurred to me to do that.”

As far as his home front, Third’s neighborhood is well-known for being Crips territory. “NHC, Neighborhood Crips. Them and Watergate Crips. They’re kind of borderline,” he observes. “Slip from Comptons Most Wanted, he stayed in the Watergate for a while. As far as the NHC, Dub C, Cube and Crazy Tunes stayed there.” He comments that there’s just one little street that separates everybody.

The intersection on the album’s cover is the nearby corner of Imperial and Western. However, in many ways, Third’s songs reflect corners all over the country, so his rhymes hit home with those who are both near and far.
Jay Z and Ice-T may have “99 Problems,” but Third says he has “Problems” of his own. “The reason I wrote the song “Problems” is that for some reason, people always come talk to me about things they need to get off their chest. So I listen a lot. One day I was arguing with my mother, and that was one of the things that came out. I’m not saying don’t talk to me about your problems. I’m just saying come back in a while, because I have mine to figure out.” Some of Third’s own deepest, personal predicaments are revealed in the song, including the fact he has a handicapped brother.

The inspired “Stylistic” is one of Third’s favorite tracks on the album. “I was listening to “Betcha By Golly Wow,” and I like to make up words to songs, so that’s how that came about. It’s basically telling people I have a new style here in L.A.,” says Third. “I studied niggas’ style and found what not to do, it’s the total opposite, I rock it better than you, whoever you are niggas bite and get trophies, a Grammy for their best Tupac on Karaoke.”

“Hit This 40” is a party song, and it’s also an anti-gold diggers song. Its 40 proof melody came about much in the same way, but it comes from a Chaka Khan song called “Night In Tunisia,” which Third used that part for the song’s chorus. Going even deeper, he explains, “It’s actually a remake of a Coltrane song or something like that she was doing.”
Observes Third, “The culture of Los Angeles is gangs, and people get influenced by it a lot, like the white t-shirts and all, so it definitely isn’t all hip hop here. However, I can take you to places here that are definitely hiphop. But yes, a lot of it is gang culture here. People in the parks out here aren’t breaking and rapping against each other; it’s probably drinking and smoking weed, and a fight is going to break out any minute. But still, there is definitely a hiphop community in this city.” The disc’s determined track “The One” is Third’s way of saying, “I’m entirely here for hiphop.”

With “Favorite Shade Of Brown,” it’s all good, and love comes in all shades to Third.
“Eye Candy” features Pupa Don, one of the illest West Coast dancehall cats.
There are a slew of other radio driven songs on the album, and the Pedestrian is no doubt, walking tall. You’re now at that intersection of hiphop beats and masterful rhymes, as the Pedestrian is making his way through your speakers

paper 07/01/04 | Listen To New Artist Slim
Listen to Los Angeles based rapper Slim's first single "Winding" featuring Clive. Hot off his soon to drop debut album entitled "Make It Happen". He's rappin the 2nd verse while Clive is doing the singing.
Slim is a newcomer who brings veteran-like skills to the industry. You'll find he's one of the most in-your-face, unorthodox, unique rappers on the scene… The one to track. Don't take my word for it, Listen! He is signed to Troublesome Records. They’re a force to be reckoned with.
