record, but Steele has stepped up his lyrical game on the new album.
For

| Crooked I Pushes Back Mixtape;
Links Up With DJ Skee
Crooked I is preparing to make his anticipated return with
his new mixtape "Young Boss Vol. 2". Crooked I originally planned to
release the follow up to last year's Volume 1 today, November 15th, but there
was a last minute delay that came up. Crook decided to push it back for a specific
reason, cause the Young Boss reached out to DJ Skee to host the mixtape, which
put a delay of a few days in the project.
Crooked I hit up West Coast
2k to discuss the exact reasons for the delay, as well as other details on the
mixtape.
"The mixtape is ready to go," Crooked I told
West Coast 2k. "but I decided that I wanted somebody to host it. So I
put it in my man DJ Skee's hands, and he did his thing to it after I finished
it up. The mixtape was scheduled to drop today, but that was only a tentative
date though. That wasn't a date in concrete, cause once we lost the entire mixtape
from the hard drive we didn't know exactly when we were gonna put it out. I was
thinking around the 15th, but that was only tentative. Right now I'm just
waiting on it getting finished pressed up. I'm figuring it will be done in about
a week to 10 days till it's pressed up."
Being a label owner,
Crooked I has obviously more to take care of than just recording music in the
studio. Some fans may not be aware that the Dynasty CEO is involved in every step
and process of getting his project released.
"I know sometimes
it takes a little while, but people gotta understand that we're a independent
company man. This is not no phony lil' label imprint deal that I got. I got a
real record company, it's really independent, we have our office, we got a staff,
and we work our ass off. We not like a big machine like other labels where you
make a mixtape and then I'm on to the next project, while the others have to go
and get it pressed up, put in the money, and make the phone calls. But it's not
like that, I have to do it all. We're trying to pump it out as big as the big
boys do, but they just gotta give us a little more time. And I swear it's gonna
be more quality anyway." Crooked I continued.
When asked about
the material and lyrical content of the "Young Boss Vol. 2" mixtape,
Crooked I said:
"It ain't just a average mixtape, it's all original
music on there so it's more like an underground album. It's definitely a hot project,
I think people will find something on there that they can really get down with.
And I'm totally speaking my mind. Some songs are considered political, cause I'm
not just a rapper that wants to just rap about club life all the fucking time.
The whole mixtape got different looks on it. I got tracks like "Rap 101"
which is teaching rappers about the art of MCing. I got another one called "Home"
which is one of my personal favorites because it tells you no matter how crazy
it is in the ghetto, this is home for us. I got another one which is a letter
to the homies in the penitentiaries. So the whole thing is a banger. Cause see,
alot of cats on the West are arguing over who's the King on the West. But in they
songs they talking about a whole lot of stuff that nobody cares about."
Crooked I told West Coast 2k.
Crooked I left a message for all his
fans telling everybody to look out for the mixtape. You can check that out by

I - Message To All The Fans

| More New Music From Tha Alkaholiks

| Crown City Signs New Artist Black
& Mild
Black & Mild is the latest addition
to the Crown City Entertainment roster, which is already home to such buzzworthy
artists as XL Middleton, Rev, & 1stBorn. He signed with CCE earlier in 2005,
and showed his tireless (or "Restless") work ethic by completing his
Crown City debut, Bottled Up, less than two months after coming to the label.
Black brings a more hood approach to the "hooligan hip hop" style that
XL Middleton has already pioneered, fusing tales of intoxicated celebration with
more familiar subject matter, such as the ills of street life and dreams of one
day overcoming those struggles. He almost signed a deal with Def Jam Records but
turned it down because, as a young artist in the struggling West Coast hip hop
scene, it was painfully clear that he would be put on the backburner ahead of
other, more established Def Jam acts such as Joe Budden. At that point, it was
time to "lease out the Slacker Pad," as Black puts it about his move
to Crown City Entertainment. XL Middleton saw the talent in the Altadena, CA,
native, and was simply waiting for the right moment for them to cross paths, which
more than likely would have happened in the liquor section of any Pasadena supermarket.
What really sets Black & Mild apart as an artist is his down-to-earth
yet flossy rhyme style. You hear the talk about nice cars and flashy chains, but
you also hear the story of an everyday person who is always down to mix up a few
drinks & chill out at your local backyard house party. "After the show
it's the afterparty and, after that it's Albertsons for Bacardi", he spits
in a mixtape verse. "Hop in the Benz with a pack in back of hoodrats, where
we headed, Roscoe's or Jack's?" he rhymes on his underground single "Till
It's Time 4 Breakfast".
Black is sure to generate much buzz as an
MC when he drops his mixtape "My Life Is A Weekend Vol. 1", coming November
2005. He will prove that he can hang with any mixtape spitter that's out right
now. When his solo album "Bottled Up" comes out on November 29th, 2005,
he will also prove himself as a well-rounded artist who can do more than spit
16's over industry beats (the ability to make good songs is a must for any Crown
City Entertainment artist, so says XL Middleton). Bottled Up includes productions
from Meech Wells & XL Middleton, as well as a guest appearance by Larceny
Entertainment's own Young Breezy. Here's some audio from Black & Mild:
